Pleasure Principles 1.1/Breathe

First things first. If you aren’t breathing, are you even alive bro?

Week 1: Breathe Bitch, Breathe!

The Theory:

Breath is life. Without breath, there is no life. Duh, we know this. What you may not know is that breath is the way in which the body connects to the fountain of life force energy that is always available to us. Breath is the pump that circulates the subtle energy that powers everything in your body. The deeper and fuller you breathe, the more this cosmic energy can penetrate and permeate your cells. 

You must learn how to breathe again. Negative emotions such as shame, guilt, anger, and fear all impede the flow of breath. It also happens the other way around. Constriction of breath happens when we don’t want to feel negative thoughts and emotions. We also restrict our breath in response to overload of positive emotions or pleasure. As you resist the nature of anything that you are experiencing your breath becomes shallow. Emotions are energy and they need to move. If you don’t breathe through it that shit gets stuck. For us women, we also have learned not to take big belly breaths so we can look slimmer. Fuck that.

When you are not breathing sufficiently, it also causes contraction which can lead to lower vibes getting stuck in your body. By resisting full breaths you add the vibration of fear to that which was already beginning to stop the flow of life force within you. The longer you do this, the less life force energy the body cells receive. As they lose more and more access to that which powers them, they begin to die or mutate in order to adapt. The longer this goes on, the more dis-ease and illness you may begin to manifest. 

To reverse this mechanism, you must breathe deeper and more fully. You must relax your diaphragm and breathe all the way into your belly. You must allow the sensation of pleasure that is breathing in this life energy so deeply. You must also choose to feel any emotional pain of lower frequency vibrations that may be present. You must also allow the pleasure that is inherent in your senses to flow. It may be uncomfortable at first, but the discomfort of physical pain of a body slowly dying from suffocation is much worse I promise. 

Stuck emotions are the result of and an indication of faulty or negative beliefs and thought patterns that are not in alignment with your higher truth or the genuine needs of your body and soul. As you breathe through these emotions, you must continue until they reveal the messages that they carry. These are the words, the thoughts, the statements and beliefs underlying the emotional messages. These must be corrected there at the root or they will continue to wreak havoc upon you. Keeping notes of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions that come up can be helpful. (I will offer teachings about how to clear those later, or you can check out the Goddess School which has modules to help you clear stuck emotional energy.)

Breathing feels good and we are often resistant to feeling good. Allow the pleasure of taking deep breaths. Your life depends on it! The pleasure of breath is like the kiss of angels. It gently and surely caresses your entire being with a soft and flowing light. You may feel tingles or a quickening upon the skin both inside and outside your body. It is like a sweet and gentle breeze that creates dulcet ripples upon a still pond. Let it happen. Feel the feels. Let it feel good!

The Practice:

For the next 7 days, make a commitment to breathe deeper.

As often as you remember, pause for a moment and take a few complete and full breaths. If you need to, set reminders or leave sticky notes where you will see them often. *Download or screenshot the wallpapers below… “Breathe bitch, breathe!”

To take a full deep breath, fill up your chest first and then let your belly expand. As you exhale, gently release the air from your belly first and then empty the chest. Repeat.

Do NOT do a seated breathing session. I want you to incorporate this into everything that you do. I want you to make a habit of taking longer deeper breaths everywhere you are, and no matter what you are doing. I want you to make breathing deeply part of your regular routine. 

Things to Notice:

As you begin to breathe more, you will start to notice places of tension and discomfort in your body. Imagine that you can direct your breath into those places. As you do so, you can say in your mind ‘soften’, or ‘relax’. Feel the subtle energy of life force swirling and penetrating those places. Notice how breathing deeper instead of resisting allows stuck energy to be released.

You may also notice that you suddenly are aware of emotions that you have been avoiding. Do not resist this. Allow whatever rises to rise without judgement. Simply continue to direct your breath into the sensation until the wave of emotion runs its course. It may be helpful to keep a journal handy to jot down anything that comes up during your breath practice. 

My hope is that you will begin to make deep breathing a part of your everyday life. It will take some concerted effort at first, but the more you do it, the more it will become second nature. The more you breathe, the more life energy will become available to you. The more you breathe, the better you will feel and the quicker you will heal any ailments that may be plaguing you be them body, mind, or spirit.
